What does scrap fashion even mean?
Scrap fashion is what Katelyn Fay labels her one of a kind garments because just like with her visual art, she prefers not to be wasteful or focus on precise, perfect cuts, shapes, and sizes of materials.
When she creates something she doesn’t mind leaving it imperfect and non traditional, it makes it look more raw and real, like it was made by a real human being. It’s reminiscent of experimenting as a child, when we weren’t afraid of coloring within the lines.
Imaginative and creativity come from the constant flow of thoughts and ideas which, in Katelyn’s opinion, are better when they are left in the raw, unedited form, and in the case of fashion, in the imperfectly perfect scraps that are otherwise thrown in the garbage.
